Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar (packed light or dark)
  • 3 Large ripe bananas (mashed)
  • 2 Large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp Pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus a little extra to go on top of batter)
  • 1/4 cup Mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×5 loaf pan with non-stick baking spray. Line the pan with parchment paper for easy removal later.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together: All-purpose flour, Unsweetened cocoa powder, Baking soda, Salt. Set this mixture aside for later use.
  3. In a small bowl, mash the ripe bananas using a fork or potato masher until smooth.
  4. In another medium bowl, whisk together: Melted butter, Brown sugar until it forms a thick paste. Then add in: Mashed bananas, Sour cream, Vanilla extract. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
  5. Add in eggs one at a time while mixing thoroughly. Gradually incorporate all of the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Expect some lumps due to banana chunks.
  6. Fold in both semi-sweet chocolate chips and mini chocolate chips into the batter until evenly distributed.
  7. Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan, filling it about three-quarters full. If there's extra batter, feel free to use it in a muffin pan! Sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top. Bake for about 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes in the pan before moving it to a cooling rack.
  8. Let your Double Chocolate Banana Bread cool completely before slicing.
