- 1 cup boiling water
- 3/4 cup boiling milk
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar

- 3 large eggs
- 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup Dutch processed cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 8 tbsp unsalted butter (for sauce)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar (for sauce)
- 1 cup cream (for sauce)
- 1 cup milk (for sauce)
- 200g dark chocolate (60-70%)
- 1/2 tsp salt (for sauce)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, soak chopped dates in boiling water for about 10 minutes.
- In another bowl, beat softened butter, brown sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add eggs one at a time.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet mixture, alternating with boiling milk. Fold in soaked dates and liquid.
- Pour batter into a greased baking dish and bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
