- Blanched almonds or orange zest (for decoration)
- 480 ml water (for syrup)
- 350 grams granulated sugar (for syrup)
- 15 ml lemon juice (about 1 tablespoon)
- 15 ml orange juice (about 1 tablespoon)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 23 cm (9 inch) round cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine semolina, sugar, baking powder, and orange zest.
- Add yogurt, melted butter or ghee, and vanilla extract into the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and score the top for easy serving.
- Bake for about 30–40 minutes until golden brown; ensure a toothpick comes out clean when inserted.
- While baking, prepare the syrup by combining water, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan over medium heat until dissolved. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Once baked, pour warm syrup evenly over the cake while it's still hot. Allow to cool completely before serving.
