Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 15.25 ounce white cake mix
  • Water (oil, and eggs according to directions on the box)
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder (optional)
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 1/2 to 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 to 5 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and lining them.
  2. Beat cream cheese with sugar until smooth, then mix in flour, eggs, sour cream, heavy cream, and vanilla.
  3. Divide the mixture; color half red and pour into one pan while pouring the plain mixture into another.
  4. Bake at 325°F for about 60 minutes or until set. Allow cooling completely.
  5. Prepare your white cake mix according to package directions; add cocoa powder if desired.
  6. Bake the cake layers as per instructions and let cool on a wire rack.
  7. Beat butter and powdered sugar to create frosting; add milk to achieve desired consistency.
  8. Assemble your cake by alternating layers of cake and cheesecake; frost the top and decorate as desired.
